9 Spring Events & Festivals Happening in Lake Norman

As the warmer weather approaches, spring becomes packed with events that you don’t want to miss. The area hosts a variety of events that are fun for the whole family. From music festivals and boat races to paddleboarding for a great cause and watching athletes throw battle axes. This season brings some of the largest signature events to the area so mark your calendars to be in Lake Norman for the next couple of months!

Spring Food Truck Rally (April 6)

Rural Hill is a place that always hosts events and the Spring Food Truck Rally is one of them. There will be seventeen food trucks along with wine and beer sales.  With live music, you are sure to have a wonderful time.  A Kids Zone with bounce houses and various games lets the young ones run wild and a hay ride that features beautiful scenic views top off this popular event.Food Truck Festival

‘Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival (April 14)

The ‘Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival will be held at Old Town Cornelius and it features brilliant local artists, live music, food trucks, craft breweries, and games for the kids! There won’t be just one, but two stages of live music. Walk down the street and see over 80 local artists showcasing their work, so be sure to bring some money as you may find some pretty unique craftsmanship. Walking creates an appetite, so there will be two different food truck courts ready to satisfy those munchies. Loch Norman Highland Games (April 20-22)

Loch Norman Highland Games is a Scottish festival hosted at Historic Rural Hill that everyone can enjoy. Come watch world ranked professional heavy athletes perform in seven traditional Scottish events that include throwing a battle axe, shooting long bows, and throwing weights for distance and height. For the kids, make sure to pick up a passport that allows them to learn about Scottish heritage and traditions by going to tents representing different parts of Scotland. Hooked on Cornelius and Earth Day Celebration (April 21)

Celebrate two events in one! Hooked on Cornelius will be held in conjunction with the annual Earth Day Celebration at Robbins Park. They will offer opportunities for nature walks, arts and crafts for the kids, and educational activities. There will also be a giveaway of free seeds along with tree planting demonstrations for those who don’t have a green thumb. The first forty registered participants for Hooked on Cornelius will receive a free youth tackle box and will get the chance to fish at the pond!Earth Day

Concerts on the Green (April 22)

If you’re looking for a nice way to spend Sunday evenings, Concerts on the Green in Downtown Davidson should be marked on your calendar. Musicians and bands perform in front of the public library, where you can spread a blanket or set up a comfy chair and listen to great music. Paddle 4 Purpose (May 5)

Paddle 4 Purpose is an event at Port City Club that brings professional and amateur paddleboarders around the country to compete in a series of races. Be a member in the audience or join in on the fun and participate in the race. NC Brewers & Music Festival (May 11-12)

The NC Brewers & Music Festival is a two-day event celebrating great music, North Carolina, and its brewing traditions. Grab a group of friends and come enjoy the free tastings of the top brews the state has to offer. Both days will be filled with live music, beer, and food, so why not lay down a blanket or put up a tent to enjoy this rain or shine event in Rural Hill.NCBMF.JPG

Asian Festival & Dragon Boat Race (May 19)

The Asian Festival and Dragon Boat Race at Ramsey Creek Park highlights Asian cultures while having live music and dance performances. The event kicks off with the first round of Dragon Boat Races that attract local and regional teams to the waters of Lake Norman. After the first round is over, stop by the booths showcasing the different cultures and grab a bite of delicious Asian food brought to you by local vendors. After you’ve satisfied your taste buds, watch the Martial Arts demonstration and then take a break from walking around to watch the dance and music contests. Cornelius Jazz Festival (May 19)

The Cornelius Jazz Festival in Smithville Park is filled with music and fun for everyone. Come listen to the many jazz bands that will be performing, while drinking the area’s local craft beer and munching on the foodie favorites. There will also be activities for the children so there’s something to do for all ages! Money raised at the event will benefit Send-A-Kid-To-Camp at the Lake Norman YMCA.Jazz Fesetival
